Injectable Treatments

There is a simple and effective way to treat many of the affects that time, aging, and the environment have on our skin — injectable treatments. Our office offers a number of different injectable treatments to help you diminish, and sometimes even eliminate, things like fine lines and wrinkles, varicose or spider veins, skin furrows, lack of firmness and volume, and other typical concerns.

There are three different types of injectables that we use here in our office: intramuscular injections, dermal fillers, and Sclerotherapy injections. Let’s take a look at what each kind can do for you.

Intramuscular Injections

Intramuscular injections include drugs like Botox and Dysport. These kinds of treatments work by being injected directly into the muscles of the face, such as the forehead or between the brows — placement is all dependent on where the wrinkles and lines you are trying to treat are located. The active medication — such as Botulinum toxin, the active ingredient in the aforementioned injectables — works by relaxing the muscles in the injected area. Relaxed muscles can’t contract, which means they can’t create wrinkles and lines. Most of the time, these kinds of injections are used to treat active wrinkles that have formed recently or aren’t extremely advanced or deep.

The most common treatment areas include frown lines, forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet around the eyes and creases in the neck. The effects of this kind of injectable last an average of three to six months, depending on a number of factors — including the kind of injectable, the particular problem you are trying to treat and your individual skin.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are another popular choice of injectable. These kinds of treatments are not injected into your muscles, nor do they work to freeze or relax those muscles. Dermal fillers are used to “fill” in areas beneath the skin or dermis. Some go very deep beneath the dermis in order to tackle deep wrinkles, while others are injected closer to the surface to treat fine lines or to add fullness and volume in places where you feel you are lacking.

The most common issues treated with dermal fillers include thin lips, shallow facial contours, creases and wrinkles, and even recessed scars. Effects of dermal fillers can last anywhere from months to years (notably the heavier fillers), and there are many different kinds of dermal fillers to choose from. What kind is best for you depends on your individual needs and concerns. One of our medical experts can help you determine which one is best for you.

Sclerotherapy Injections

Injectable treatments for varicose and spider veins are another tool we utilize for our patients’ ease and comfort. This kind of treatment is known as Sclerotherapy and it has been in wide use since the 1930s. The process is very simple and is done right in our office, just like with all other injectable treatments. A solution — usually a salt solution — is injected directly into the problem vein. The blood in the vein clots and irritates the vein, causing it to become scar tissue that gradually fades from view.
